Terrapin delivers offsite lesson on fast school building |
With many schools facing pressure for additional space leading up to the 2009/10 school year, offsite building specialist Terrapin has announced a special offer – a high quality double classroom ready for use in just five weeks from order. The £72,500 standard classroom package provides two 63.4m² air conditioned and carpeted teaching areas – each with a 4.4m² store – and a communal entrance lobby. Terrapin’s fast-track space solution comes with an impressive array of standard specifications – and includes the proven quality assurance benefits of factory built structures.
Terrapin’s standard double classroom is fully compliant with building and fire regulations and has a robust, maintenance free external finish of sienna coloured Stenni aggregate panels. The new block can be specified with a standard flat, felt covered roof or the specification can be upgraded to a concrete tiled pitched roof. Each 7.5m x 8.4m carpeted teaching area has double glazed aluminium windows and six double power sockets. The 2.65m high suspended ceiling includes an air conditioning unit and recessed fluorescent lighting. Costs do not include VAT, delivery to site and other variables such as crane hire, foundations, drainage, entrance steps and ramps or provision of electrical supply which are separately quoted for.
Richard Macdonald, Terrapin Sales and Marketing Director, says: “The new standard block is available to purchase – or for hire, as an example, at just £345 a week over a five-year period. With our experience over 60 years we’ve made school building much simpler – involving far less disruption on site than traditional methods, with fewer deliveries, less noise, mess and waste and lower risk of theft or vandalism. The standard package has been specifically developed to assist the many schools which have their own budgets but inadequate time to address the problem of increasing numbers of pupils through conventional building solutions. Our package can also provide quality ‘temporary’ accommodation for students while a school is being redeveloped or rebuilt.”
The Terrapin standard double classroom package is based on a five-week programme which includes factory construction and all site works. Foundation works are completed during week three, with erection and finishing of structure during weeks four and five. The five-week programme is subject to factory capacity and any necessary planning permissions being in place.
